Tarot reading is the practice of interpreting tarot cards, in order to gain insights into the past, the present, and the future. These cards are used to provide anything, be it answers to a person’s questions, or clearer perspectives and meanings that which influence situations in any given time.
The reader uses a plethora of factors when it comes to making meanings out of the cards, such as the cards’ names, the cards’ inherent spiritual forces, their positions in a “spread” (layout), how he/she feels about the cards and the person, and many other things. The tarot deck, on the other hand, is an instrument in making more sense of the uncertainties surrounding our lives.
One of the biggest misconceptions about tarot reading is that, it is just about telling a person what his/her future is. This is true, but only to a certain degree. if we think deeper about it, tarot reading enables us to see our lives from another perspective.
Other important things to keep in mind are the following:
1. The cards can only tell us so much about things. We must not forget that we still have to do our part. If the future is promising according to the cards, we still need to make conscious actions and decisions to make it a reality. And the cards can tell us the best ways to achieve just that.
2. At the end of the day, it is still our actions and decisions – our freewill – that counts. What we do will still have the biggest influence in our situations and in our future. We are still the masters of our own destinies. We can regard the cards as guides, or advices. It is still up to ourselves how we will use these.
3. The tarot reader is responsible to give impartial, unbiased interpretations. However, he/she is not responsible for your actions. As pointed out earlier, it is still up to us.
4. The cards are not here to tell you the things that you want to hear. The cards are here to tell you the things that they think you need to hear.
Being aware of these, as a tarot reader, I always make sure that I never lose sight of the overall reason why I have chosen this path in the first place: to help people find their answers. It is not just about telling them what their future is. It is more about making sense of their situations, problems, and dreams in order for them to be more certain and assertive as they pursue their path going into the future.
