Jakey Morales is a tarot reader from Metro Manila, Philippines. He helps people view their lives from different perspectives.

Why “Tarot and Coffee”?

I thought of the name while I was setting up my Facebook Page. Since I usually meet people at coffee shops, “Tarot and Coffee” sounds interesting. It has a nice ring to it. A tarot reader from Manila, meeting people at coffee shops. “Why not?”, I thought.

When and how did you start to be tarot reader?

The Empress

Around 2010, there was a night when I had a lot of time on my hands. I can’t sleep, so I was idling around the internet. Online, I started to read about tarot when I chanced upon a specific Major Arcana – The Empress (pictured).

Meanwhile, I already had a close friend who was deeply involved with New Age and Occult. She was well-known within the circles as a reliable tarot reader, and she practices other things such as Reiki and Pranic Healing. Once in a while, she reads her tarot cards for me, most especially whenever I felt low or uncertain. To cut the story short, during one of our sessions she just told me out of the blue, “Jake, I think you have what it takes.” She gave me one of her old tarot decks and she told me to start studying them. And so it began, my personal journey.

Like meeting my mentor, I hope that I’ll be able to meet other tarot readers in the Philippines.

Is this your full-time job?

Nope.  I have a regular office job.  I work as a technical analyst in the online marketing industry.  So being a tarot reader is a title I usually assume outside the office.  Or, maybe even when inside the office because I also read for my coworkers once in a while.

Do you read for yourself?

This is one of the most popular questions people ask me. No, I don’t read for myself. In theory, I can and I am able to. It is just my personal choice not to, primarily because I tend to be biased when it comes to my situations. Whenever I do need to have a reading for myself, I let other tarot readers read for me. However, I do use my cards for meditation. Once in a while, I have conversations with them, just letting them speak.

      1. Thank you, Jakey! :D I think Maginhawa is going to be perfect, probably one of these Sundays. Will let you know as soon as I have my sked sorted. :)

Btw, I haven’t really done this stuff before. Is a strong belief in New Age required for, say, a more powerful reading?

        1. Splendid! I look forward to it then!

Well, it’s not so much about strongly believing in something first. Personally, I think that having an open mind is just enough for one to appreciate a tarot session. And, no worries. I’ve already encountered a lot of people who are about to have a reading for the first time. Everything is done gently and with utmost guidance. You’ll be in good hands, and I’ll help you throughout the entire process. :)
